Home Game Against Hauraki
Saturday 26th June had Hauraki North travel to Whangamata. They beat us 5-Nil in the first round. Their Coach rang early that morning to say they would dribble into Whangamata as there was a big funeral on the Plains for one of their player's father-in-law (Lawrence Peacock).
Therefore the game started slightly late but Whanga went straight into attack mode with our big men running straight at them. We scored early and converted. Score 7-Nil. Three more tries were scored before half time to be leading 28-Nil. One very good chip and chase try by Cory P.
Second half started with North on the attack but the Whanga boyz barred up and held them out. Whanga scored again which deflated them and stepped up. The Whanga kickers did more tactical kicking in one game than they have in the last ten games! The team scored 9 tries with Eli S converting 5 of them. James L and Kevin T scored 2 each and Crocky, Riki T, Sammy B, Cory P and H all scored one each. FINAL SCORE 55 - 0.
Our arch rivals Waihi went to Coromandel to play and were only leading 6-3 with little time to go but won 14-3.
Points after the weekends play are - Waihi 19, Whanga 9, POB 5, North 4, Coro 0. (POB gained a five point default over Coro as Coro played a Red Carded player under another name!). This week is the Final Round of pool play with Hauraki North at home to Coro and Whanga travels to Paeroa for a must win game to have a shot at the Major Semi Final against Waihi. Waihi has the Bye and will surely send SPIES to our Paeroa game for a nosey!
