Saturday 19th June had Whangamata away to arch rivals Waihi (with the Anisley Shield up for grabs).

Whangamata started well and dominated territory for the first ten minutes.  We had the chance for a penality score but missed.  Continued to apply pressure to their try line - but no cigar - their defence held up.  They ventured into our half and received a penalty.  Score 3 - Nil.  The rest of that half was a physical battle.  We lost Grevious with a dislocated elbow and Jesse with a broken arm!  We made one scoring chance with a try to Huck from a rolling maul.  Score 5-3.  They came back with a penalty and a try to lead at the break 13-5.

The second half started with a try to Sammy B through the middle of their defence under the post which was converted.  Score 13-12 to Waihi.  That score held for a while but the Waihi fitness showed and they scored a number of times from Whanga mistakes and good back play.  FINAL SCORE 37-12.

Still it was only a battle, with the WAR yet to be decided.
