22nd May Against Waihou
Whangamata travelled to Te Aroha for the early game at 12.30pm against Waihou. We almost got to the 22 players stripped but dreaming gets us no where! Played the fifteen that turned up to training on Thursday night. Had a good start to the game using the moves practised - some worked and some need more work! Scrums and lineouts worked well which provided the platform for some running rugby. The back seven played some good running type rugby - I would name them but I fear some spys might be tuning into this website for some tips. We scored four tries in the first half and three in the second to win the game 48-7. Ahh yes - they did catch us sleeping once and scored a good try in the corner, but it can't have been in the corner cause they converted (must have run around the outside!) Riki T was the Player of Day with a good all round performance.
Curdy scored a farewell try before his trip to South Africa for his big OE. He's been a consistant performer for the Team over the past few years. GOOD LUCK OUT THERE!
The bus trip home was another cracker. Those early games have you in good spirits before dark.
Other results around the Valley - BIG NEWS - Tairua lost for the first time this season when they played West. West won 23-13.
North downed Waihou 55-5, COB beat Ngatea, Mercury Bay beat Thames. In Second Division: Mercury bay beat COB 17-Nil, Waihi beat POB 55-5 and North beat Thames.
