Home Game
Saturday 24th April the Whangamata (WGM) Rugby team had a home game against Paeroa Old Boys (POB). Leading into the game POB were second on the table with 14 points and we had 11 points. A fine day with a good pitch the game started well for the home side with a forced turnover from the kick off which accumulated into an early try. The team hit straight back from their kick off and used the wind advantage to keep POB defending their line. Three more tries were scored in the first twenty minutes. Everyone was trying to play the running/passing game. Set pieces worked well and breakdowns were allowed to flow. One lapse in defence around a ruck allowed POB to score a try. We went to the half time break leading 22-5. Paeroa started the second half with more conviction and applied lots of pressure but Whanga defended most of their attacks. One more lapse did allow them a converted try. Whangamata went back on attack and scored another four tries to finish the game winning 36-12.
Compliments to the referee who allowed the game to flow like it should!
Tries to BJ (2), Brad, Hardy, Crocky, Kevin, Kana and Chad. Chad 3x conversions.
