SIMPLE RULES
Saturday 17th April the Team travelled to Hauraki North for the early 12.30 game. Hauraki North were second on the table leading into the match and Whanga in third spot.
The game started well for Whanga with the majority of possession and territory but with mistakes at the breakdown tackle ball area, mauling, scrummage and lineout errors cost penalties which helped keep the score to a nil all draw at the half. The second half was much the same as the first with repeated penalties. North managed to get into Whangas half mid-way through the second half and a good team effort allowed them to outflank our defence and score in the corner. Score 5 nil. Whanga didn't give up in the last twenty and went back at them but now frustration set in and crucial handling errors and penalties continued and the clock ticked down to full time. Final score 5 - 0.
Back to the drawing board to read up on all these new rules they change each year to keep us Amateur "Grass Roots Rugby" Administrators guessing as to the referees interpretations of the rules for a great game we ONCE used to play!
HOW ABOUT LEAVING ALL THESE RULE CHANGES TO THE PROFESSIONALS AND SEMI-PROFESSIONAL SPORTSMEN AND ADMINISTRATORS WHO ARE PAID TO WORK THEM OUT AND LEAVE US WITH THE OLD SIMPLE RULES THAT WE CAN TEACH WITH OUR 4 HOURS OF TRAINING EACH WEEK.
